| Pecan Pralines PECAN PRALINES
Our pecan pralines are a Southern delicacy!
Fun Facts about Pecan Pralines:
The
Praline is from a family of confections made from nuts and sugar syrup. Praline can be pronounced a few different ways. In the US Gulf Coast area, praline is pronounced prah-leen or praw-leen; in the rest of the US the common pronunciation is pray-leen.
In Europe, the mostly use almonds for the nuts or sometimes hazelnuts. In the South, pecans are almost always used, often incorporating cream into the mixture. Praline candy patties are a treat very much associated with New Orleans, but are also popular in other cities in the South.
Pecan Pralines were first invented in France. The French used whole almonds for their pralines and individually coated them in caramelized sugar, as opposed to a dark nougat, where many nuts are covered by a sheet of caramelized sugar at a time. When you grind up the now sugar-coated nuts a powder is created called 'pralin' or 'praline' in French. This 'praline' is an ingredient used in many cakes and pastries.
The basic praline recipe calls for pecans, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cream and butter. There are many other variations to this recipe, including pralines flavored with shredded coconut, rum, vanilla, chocolate and peanut butter. But even following this basic traditional praline recipe, no two praline makers make the same praline. Each praline is slightly different.
Our praline follows the traditional praline recipe. We think you will find our praline to be the best around!
